You can always enter the dir with your logs and do a:

search 1999#? "blah blah blah"

and find the right log, if you know a bit of the text said.

I get about 30,000 lines a day in logs on average in the channels I hang out
in...  So I have HUGE logs currently.  Having them broken up a bit would help
*me* alot.   And the way Olli suggested would allow holdouts (the people who
are not interested in changing) to keep their logging just like it is now.
