You're probably talking about visualprefs..

I know that it stayed on my system for a period of about 3 hours.. After I
removed it and my system became stable again I grew a distinct distrust of
it..  However the newer versions may have fixed the bugs assosiated with
it.

In any case the best way (not the easiest) to get a stable system is start
installing from a fresh system partition with a basic workbench install
(disable your current boot partition or give it a lower boot priority than
the new one) and see when everything goes pear-shaped. Unfortunately even
this will not guarantee a completely stable system as bugs, being the
sneaky buggers that they are will often not show up until after some time
has elapsed.
