When the username box in AmIRC is ghosted out it means that there as another
identd running on your system, in this case Genesis is running one, which
is fine and correct...  So if you login as another user, and it still shows
as root, thats a problem... As most IRC server have root@* K-Lined.

I don't use Genesis, so, Im guessing there is a place somewhere in the
prefs, where you change your real name and probably your user name as
well... and if that doesnt work, you can completely turn identd/auth off in
inetd.conf (or the genesis GUI somewhere...), and just not worry about
ident, as its not needed, unless an IRC server requires you to have identd
running. If so, Just turn on AmIRC's identd, theres an option in the main
serverselect window.
