I use Play16, but I haven't run across any compressed Wav files that I use
with friends. I did download once to confirm that I could play the. Play16
doesn't support them AFAIK. I've heard SongPlayer is a good multi-purpose
sound player, but again I don't think it support datatypes... (see below).

Theonly way I know to play compressed WAV files (MPEG encoded WAV) is the
WavDt41 with SoundDt41. So you would need to use a player that supports
datatypes.
