The PA-309 has the same voltages and weighs 300 lbs versus the 250 lbs
of the CG-309, but I have yet to ever find its specs.

The PA series and CG series are electrically the same. The PA (public address) series is the older version. They switched over to the CG (commercial grade) series in 1949. The case styles are different but the transformer specs didn't change. The older PA series uses cast iron cases and end bells, but the CG series uses a special alloy, "hypermalloy" or something like that. It is lighter in weight. I have noticed that a magnet does not attract it, but it is supposed to be a superior magnetic shield.

The LS series underwent similar physical changes, but they didn't bother to change the type numbers. However, some of the electrical characteristics in the newer versions were revised. For example, there is a power transformer whose earlier version had 2.5 volt filament windings, but the later version was changed to 6.3 volt filament windings, but the type number is identical. Some of the later LS audio transfsormers are rated for lower power levels. This must be confusing when it comes to replacing an earlier version!
