Hi Bow,

Like Geoff said, the antenna is the key. I live in an apartment building,
and one of my biggest worries, is joining the "worked all neighbors" club.
But I am starting to seem some results, with the seasonal noise going down.
My rig, a Globe Scout 680. Other things you can also do (although an
antenna [which I'm limited with doings about - mine is basically 125-150
foot endfed, with a 60 foot tuned counterpoise] is the best solution), are
operate lower down the band (say on 3710 or 3725) away from the crowds up
around 3885, or (and this is one of my favorites), try some of the higher
bands, where your antenna won't be as much of a limitation. 7290 has its
moments where it has a fair amount of AM activity. When 10 (and 6m for that
matter) is happening, a some of us hang out around 29.0 MHz (I've had good
results on 10m). I'd love to hang out on 15m around 21.400 MHz, when the
solar flux goes up a little bit. I get very good results with my antenna on
that band.

73,
Ellen - AF9J
