Guess I can't help being a bit defensive like Bob since I have a fairly new license. But I did the math and showed the work on the work sheets too. As a matter of fact while I was working the problems on my HP calculator, I flashed back to that when I started doing reactance and resonance equations etc. I was doing them with a slide rule, trig tables, and log tables.
I also aced the code test, and can do 30 words or so with random groups, but in a real qso, my A.D.D. kicks in and I start thinking about other things and start missing characters above 15-20 or so. Still working on that aspect. I took the Tech, Tech Plus and General in one sitting and passed them so the examiner suggested that I do the Extra which I missed by 5 questions because I hadn't studied procedural issues like transmit / receive cycles for moon bounce, Extra class band privileges, etc. but I passed it at Hamcom a month later when I had a chance to go over items like that. However, I've NOT contributed to this "dumbing down" approach to the hobby. I did NOT ask for multiple choice questions. I can assure you that my code was 100% copy, BUT - the stupid test wasn't random 5 character groups. So whom do people hold responsible? The FCC? The ARRL? Or is it manufacturer's whom want to sell products?
