hehe, I was just trying to remember which options I knew.. and I remembered that one (so usefull!) the option is part of aMSN (and should be), if we want it to be part of a plugin, the plugin would need to hook the cmsn_draw_online_wrapped proc and that could be really dangerous! so it's implemented in the core, but the option should be modifiable by a plugin because it's an 'extra' feature... about the option to be a skin option, I would vote for that (Tom??) since anyways the new preferences window should allow users to override any skin option, so it would be safe to put it there (to be added to the TODO and let it be done only once the new prefs window is available).. I think it wasn't done that way because it was there before we even think of having skins for amsn :P

Hehe, fun you mention the "don't show a space between groups in contact list" option. I thought of it, but decided to think of the removal of the space as
part of the behavior of the plugin!
Actually I really don't know if that one in fact controls an aMSN option, or if the plugin changes the CL layout somehow. But I suspect the former to be true, because otherwise you probably wouldn't come up with this one now ;-)

(BTW: Doesn't it make more sense to make that option a skin option? Or was
there some good reason to do it this way?)

no, the plugin is there as an "aMSN tweaker" because some options are
really there without being used, they don't have their place there... do
you think the "don't show a space between groups in contact list" is an
"aMSN behavior that needs an option in aMSN".. no, I think it's more of a
tweak to aMSN, because it's not an option to control the general behavior
of aMSN...
about re-organizing, I say NO, I don't want to loose ressources on
something that is not necessary, we had a horrible GUI, with horrible
prefs window for so long, people can wait another year if it's really what
we need... plus, if we assign ressources on this task, it will be just
plain stupid to loose that, they could use their time better in completing
the new prefs window... plus, imagine you spend hours on something and a
month later, they say "thanx, but now, it's all in the trash", you
wouldn't like it.. I don't want others to feel their work was useless
because I know how it feels and it's horrible...

now, as I said, we'll keep it as it is, keep as many advanced prefs as you
want, don't remove anything, we'll keep all this horrible GUI until Tom
takes care of the new design!

Thanx,

I don't really like that. Options that affect aMSN itself should be in

I just think new options should not be dropped in advanced prefs so
easily.
Give them a proper place instead!

And IMHO, if we should wait for the new prefs window, will depend on
when it
is expected. If it will be there quite soon, it is wasted time to change
this
one, but if it will take a long time for the new prefs window to be
ready for
general use, then please reorganize this one a bit.

At a moment we suggested to remove all advanced prefs and put them in a
plugin... So advacned users were able to customize it and newbies weren't
disturbed by too much preferences....
