no poll, it's a much more often used option than anything else, it's as
important as 'change status' imho.. although I never use it (always set to
off)

Hmm is it actually 'much more often used'? It may be, but not by me! (always
set to 'on' ;-))

hehe, yeah, 'much more often used'.. wel,l that's what my common sens tells me, but I might be totally wrong, seems that noone here uses it.. (when you think about it, I never enable sounds, and I never change my status eithe...)

ok, for the last two comments, I agree with you, I also noticed this in
Harry's design, it seems he tries to make it as small as possible, to
condense the menus, give it a little diet.. it's not the best way to do it
imho, I agree with Karel.

I removed it because I absolutely don't see why anyone whould like to toggle the sorting of groups between ascending and descending. Why? because it is unlikely that the group names themselves will be such that an alphabetical
ordering will be any good, so people that need to sort them, will put
something (e.g. a number) at the beginning of the names, to make them appear in an ordering they like, but why would anyone then reverse that ordering???

it is still a viewing option... and you can't remove it, it's not in the prefs window.. we should always be backward compatible... no options removed.. if it's there, keep it.. and I don't think it bloats the menu, it's there so people who want it can use it ...

I agree.. but disagree (as always :P), you're right, the things in msn
menus are good, but it doesn't fit in amsn.. we have status/group/hybrid,
and he adds hide empty groups, and hide offline contacts...
first, hide empty groups is an advanced preference and will most probably be used once (should be in appareance, not in advanced), also, it's mostly usefull in hybrid mode only.. it could be added, but I don't really think
it's place is there (one-time option makes menu bloated imho)
hide offline contacts... "wtf does it mean ? will it do the same as
collapsing the 'offline' group?" that's the question I kept asking myself when I was trying to figure out what's wrong with that option.. I think we
should keep the same thing as in MSN8 :
GROUP offline users
GROUP mobile users

Hmmm, yeah.... First: hide offline contacts will simply not display those
contacts in the CL in 'groups' view, and will completely hide the 'Offline' group in 'status' or 'hybrid' view (so also no group header for 'Offline').
In 'groups' and 'hybrid' views 'Hide empty groups' together with 'Hide
offline contacts' will make a group header disappear if no contacts in that
group are online.

About frequency of use, you may be right that these are set once for always. And therefore should not be in the menu. But at least these are more sensible
view options than the 'sort groups asc/desc'.

not hide.. by grouping, you mean add an additional group... but now, if
you choose to add "group offline users", it means the 'hybrid' mode
disappears, because hybrid mode is simply 'sort contacts by group' with
'group offline users' enabled... right ?
the group mobile users option is self-explanatory...

People may want to have a clean CL with only contacts they can actually chat with. For those, the 'hide offline contacts' will do exactly what they want,
but yeah, 'group offline contacts' with Offline group collapsed gets real
close... and this is indeed similar to the current hybrid mode.

So yeah, seems like you got your point... But still I do remember I thought of hybrid mode, and these options would create possibilities that go beyond the hybrid mode.... but I cannot recall the big difference now, so maybe I was
just wrong....

Yeah, I understand what you mean, but that would go in the winskin plugin IMHO... we're talking about "normal IM behavior", group offline contacts.. hybrid mode.. yes, but make a group disappear.. useless, it's collapsed.. it's there exactly for that purpose...

anyways, we should stop lengthy discussions, Karel will take care of the rest.. if you don't like something specific and have specific reasons for it, then you tell him after the commit is done... try talking on msn as it's alot eaiser, and post here the conclusions.
