Well, just for the record, the most popular non-web-based tool for this is
wget. And yes, it can "introduce" itself as any agent, give any referrer,
etc. But it is used mainly, I think, by the few skilled users.
But the real problem is you site. If you're going to post a database online
with email addresses, then you should post them in ways that are not easily
parsed by email address collectors. This goes for dynamic and static pages.
Or look into wpoison.pl (as mentioned before on this list) to give them
something to chew on. :)

I often grab documentation sites onto my local system. Why hit the web
whenever I need to lookup something in a reference, when I have a local copy?
I think this is just something that, as a webmaster, you have to be aware of.
Of course, documentation is probably not something you're really worried
about the stats on. :)
