I want to replace an existing Webtrends report via Analog which is the "Visitor
By Country" which uses their geotrends ip database.
i am thinking that I can use the geo-ip database from www.maxmind.com ($50) as
my DNSCache and accomplish that.
If someone can tell me what is involved (and whether I am on a good track), I
would sure appreciate it. I understand the limitation of truly accurate results
but I have some pretty stubborn sales/marketing folks to make happy.
They have an optmized binary file for use with APIs (perl/c/etc) and as that is
faster and I have perl skills inhouse we would do that. Alternative is CSV. The
breakdown of the maxminds (in csv) is:
Database Fields
Field Data Type Field Description
Start IP Address varchar(15) First IP in netblock
End IP Address varchar(15) Last IP in netblock
Start IP Number unsigned bigint First IP in netblock, numeric representation.
End IP Number unsigned bigint Last IP in netblock, numeric representation.
Country Code char(2) ISO 3166 Country Code, with the addition of
* A1 for Anonymous Proxies
* A2 for Satellite Providers
Country Name varchar(50) The name of the country
I hope this is valid question for this group and I haven't neglected anything
necessary. let me know if so.
