My simple trick is setting up an android project in my workspace called emulatorstartup..
Highlight project with mouse, in eclipse the run as..config profile screen..create a new emulator runtime config for project..under AVD choice checkbox the AVD you want and click start emulator button.. Once you have that setup you can start the emulator at the begin of your workday and do not need to restart it..
