I should clarify: when building under SDK 2.3.1, I found something I did not see while trying to build the 1.6 sample: the wizard allowed building 2.3 samples under 2.3, not 1.6 under 2.3. I really did not see any such forced matching of sample to target when trying to build the 1.6 sample. I didn't even think it was possible.
