ok, to anyone whos interested: problem solved. solution was this: i tried to start/install the app from a command window using "adb install <pathToApk>" here i got the error message INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK
so i changed the 'uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion=10 ' entry in the AnroidManifest.xml file to 3. now it runs fine.
