I'd say it's better to create a library project for the simple reason that at some point he may want to update the original app. A library project would facilitate easy updates to both applications by having a single source for the shared code, and allow him to update and customize the two versions as he pleases. The only question in my mind, besides the obvious free/demo and paid versions, is why would there be two different versions of the same app, where the only difference are the background views...?
