Warranty is a hardware protection; unless you can show case law examples where the courts agreed that failures unrelated to software were not covered, this is just FUD.
(Or, more clearly, you cannot void a warranty with software unless -they- can prove that the software caused the failure - eg a laptop app that turns off all the fans and runs full throttle until it melts.. and even then, if the failure is unrelated to heat, its still under warranty.)
