The userbase just needs to be much much larger before that's going to
take off significantly.

Right now-- you release a free app--- and 10s of thousands will
download it within the first few days with glowing remarks. Put a paid
app up--- and maybe 20 will download it in the first few days-- and
1/3 of them will return it within 24 hours. You'll also get a bunch of
hatemail telling you you're morally wrong for charging money.

When it takes >150 man hours to make a decently made game it's not
really economically viable to focus significant amounts of time on the
platform. Almost any team will look at the glowing red line at the
bottom of their ROI on games released on Android right now--- and
revert future projects to "hobby" status if not canceling completely.

Until there are massively more people using Android, or a much much
higher ratio of the population buy games-- game development for the
platform will be slow. The reason the iPhone's market exploded with a
lot of good games---- was due to a massive userbase of people that buy
stuff. Money in a market attracts a lot of competition, effort and
talented teams/companies. No money in a market attracts hobbyists.
(nothing wrong with hobbyists!!)

I believe the Android market will get there eventually--- it'll just
take a bit more time.
