Um, NO. The Chrome OS was well-described in this thread as a "a hardware browser". It runs web apps. I really think a lot of folks here are missing that crucial point. Re-read the Google blog post. You boot the machine into the browser. The browser is the shell. The browser is the OS. Applications running in the OS are *web* applications running in the browser. There'll be some extra hooks to access hardware functionality - again, think of it as WebOS for netbooks - but the apps it runs are JavaScript and HTML5. Forget that it's got some Linux bits under the hood. Without some serious hackery, it won't run any Linux apps other than the Chrome browser. It won't have a filesystem as we know it, it's have Gears or HTML5 local storage. > It's as if Google is pretending Android Market isn't even there. > > The announcement didn't make a single reference to it. Funny, that. The announcement didn't mention the iPhone App Store either. That's because IT'S NOT RELEVANT. If you've been developing Android apps with PhoneGap (or something similar), then you'll be able to port them to ChromeOS pretty easily. Otherwise, fuggedaboutit. The fact that Android and ChromeOS both run on a Linux core is no more relevant than them both running on an ARM chip.
