Jeremy, I'm a little behind on reading email, but yes, lots of companies are doing it. There is a well established path to follow.
Basically, you want to create a web service or REST HTTP POST at the corporate end to retrieve the data from your database and pass it to the Android client. On the Android side, you would create a client application that would periodically (depending on your needs) send an HTTP request to the server, determine if there is information they need, and display the information to the user. It's all fairly simple to do, depending on your need for security, and user experience :).
