Not sure but given the amount of changes to support widgets in cupcake that might be the culprit..
It might be that you might not me using it in their way.. look at he Home.apk source in Android source and see if their use is the same as yours.. My mind is not up to speed right now I know they changed something as I was doing a competing HomeScreen app and had to change some stuff..
