Hi,
I am an Android user from India. I used to own a Nexus 4 but it got pick-pocketed. All the Anti theft apps failed to perform. After Lodging a complaint with the Mumbai Police they informed me that thieves have come up with a way to bypass phone tracking. Usually, police forward the stolen IMEI number to the Service operators who hot-list the IMEI and report new activity to the police through which the police trace the stolen mobile. But in Mumbai, the thieves use a software to wipe the device of its IMEI and replace it with another IMEI. This software is available for 100 INR and there are cheap Chinese phones which cost 1000 INR whose IMEI is substituted in the stolen mobile phone. Its my sincere request that Android developers come with a foolproof way to trace a stolen phones. Any third party apps don't perform if the thief is reasonably tech savvy or knows the pitfalls of a stolen phone. After waiting for months i had bought the Nexus 4 as son as it launched in India only to use it for a week before it got stolen. For all the smartphone capabilities im aghast that the security could be bypassed so easily. Now there is no hope of ever getting my phone back. I hope the developers take this request seriously and come up with a way to safeguard our mobiles and its security.
