Let me add my 2 cents ...
I think the time needed for a first app will be largely dependent on the time spent to learn how AndroMDA works. AndroMDA takes care of a lot of things and has a very clear design, but it is sometimes a bit hard to understand how everything fits together. I've also seen a large difference between people with a strong OO background and people used to program in PHP. I've tried to introduce AndroMDA to a few coders that where used to PHP and have problems grabing the concept of a framework, code separation, ... That's not to say that PHP is a bad language ... just that you can do ugly things with it if you want. So if you already know Struts / Spring / Hibernate, ... AndroMDA will probably not be a major problem. If you're new to J2EE AndroMDA will help a lot, but be prepared to spend some time learning the stuff !
