Roland, did ,modifying /etc/altboot.func work, as suggested Jan 07, 2010?
I am happy to see that Roland is still trying to get Angstrom onto Collie, as I
would like to do. Thanks, Roland, for carrying the flag for all of us lurkers.
Thanks also to Carl Clegg for providing what he reports is a solution to a
working Collie. I have been watching and waiting for Angstrom to finish booting
up on Collie for some long time.
I am new to Linux, but I have been trying to learn what I could using the
SharpRom which shipped with my Collie. However, when the Sharp site closed, I
went looking for OZ and OE. Oh, but they were now depricated to Angstrom. So,
Angstrom it is!
But, Angstrom does not have a single reported success at booting up on
Collie, while many failures are reported, since December 2007. I have not the
experience or depth of knowledge to tackle the dark arts of development in
Linux yet. I also see that there is little interest by the developers in
actually supporting Collie, since they have moved on to Cxxx Zaurus or Nokia
N8xx. So, I wait and learn what I can in other places.
I have been checking the Angstrom website, wiki, stable, and unstable for
Collie info for since December 2007 or before. Not having flashed my Collie
before, and having read that it can be bricked, I am afraid to try Angstrom if
it involves flashing NAND, which it obviously does, especially when there is NO
promise of anyone ever having successfully done so. Why risk bricking my
machine, which I am getting some use from, when those who are much more
knowledgeable than I, have failed to get Angstrom working on their Collies?
I keep reading that there is no user interest in Angstrom on the Collie.
I believe this is a dog chasing it's tail. When Angstrom is reported to be
working on Collie and clear instructions on How To are forthcoming, Collie
users will flock to Angstrom. I am not the only lurking waiting for a cure.
