Happy New Year! As we begin exercising off those holiday dinners, it's time
also to get back on the streets for liberty. We have a ballot drive that
officially starts today, for the eventual Libertarian nominee for president.
But we also have a convention coming up, and we want to make sure this one is
larger and more exciting than any of our past conventions. The best way to do
that is to make sure more people remain -- or become -- members of the LP!
I am writing this message in my capacity as LPVA's membership chairman. It is
my job to see that members maintain current membership in the LP to maximize
our clout in the political world. With that in mind, I am seeking
self-starting individuals willing to devote at least one hour a week helping
contact individuals who are approaching their LP membership renewal date.
The individuals we seek ahould be willing to carefully follow up with members
who are nearing their renewal dates. For instance, if someone's membership in
the LP expires on March 1, we want our volunteer to begin attempting to contact
that person a couple of months in advance -- like now. Phone contact is the
first priority. The volunteer needs to know how to "ask for the order" and
acquire the renewal or new membership right on the spot (we can take
contributions over the phone with a credit card).
Note that you can also treat the membership renewal process as an opportunity
to be a "precinct captain", and actually go and meet the members who need to
renew. Emails and phone calls are no substitute for an encouraging handshake
and a smile. The membership committee will even reimburse your mileage.
We will of course supply membership forms and other necessities.
