Dear colleagues:
I hope all is well with you. I have enclosed below an announcement
I received from Bill Redpath concerning his decision to seek the LPVa
nomination to run for the U.S. Senate this year. As you are probably
aware, Mr. Redpath is the national chairman of the Libertarian Party.
He has served as a candidate for the Libertarian Party of Virginia on
several occasions; in particular, he was the LPVa candidate for governor
in 2001.
Thanks for your work for liberty.
Take care,
Jim

From Bill Redpath:
Jim:
I think that I don't have LPVA Announce list posting privileges, but if
you would please post this on the LPVA Announce list, I would be most
appreciative.
It is currently my intention to seek the LPVA nomination for US Senate
in 2008. I don't think the details of the nomination process have been
set yet, but I assume that it will be on the agenda at the State
Convention on Saturday, March 29. It is my understanding that no one
else is pursuing the nomination.
As with the presidential petition, the petition circulation period
starts on Tuesday, January 1. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone
and everyone "who is qualified, or eligible to be qualified, to vote" in
Virginia would begin gathering signatures for me that day.
I will get petition copies to people who request them ASAP. In the
interim, a US Senate petition PDF can be downloaded from the State Board
of Elections website. The two pages need to be copied onto a single
sheet, front and back. Please make sure the back side is top to
bottom the same as the front side.
On the top of front side of the form, in black or blue ink (I believe),
write in:
William B. Redpath
827 Anthony Ct., SE
Leesburg 20175
United States Senate (District Number is not applicable)
You need to separate petition signers by Jurisdiction (County or City)
and Congressional District (CD). You write in the CD number in the box
in the upper right hand corner of the front side of the petition. As
with the presidential petition, circulators have an affidavit to sign.
Other petitioning instructions sent out by Jim Lark for the presidential
petition also apply to the US Senate petition.
Please note that the deadline for turning in the US Senate petition is
Tuesday, June 10 (not late August, as with the presidential petition).
I will also match Jim Lark's pledge of 1,000 signatures to be gathered
on the presidential petition. Should I fall short, I will also pledge a
$1 per signature contribution to the LPVA.
Due to a long standing prior commitment, I will not be able to attend
the Saturday, January 19 SCC meeting, but I look forward to seeing you
no later than the LPVA convention on March 29.
Thank you very much.
Bill Redpath
