Soap smugglers ================================================ They're a special breed in Spokane. First, they kick out the sitting Speaker of the House, Tom Foley, because he tried an end run around term limits, now this. http://www.newsvirginian.com/wnv/news/local/article/spokane_residents_rebel_over_dirty_dishes/37886/ ================================================ 2. Fair-Housing fascism ================================================ fas-cism [fash'-iz-uhm] Noun.(sometimes initial capital letter ) a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism. http://www.fff.org/freedom/fd0811d.asp ================================================ 3. Virginia Tax Day Tea Parties ================================================ Who needs to be tea-bagged more than the politicians of Virginia? http://taxdayteaparty.com/teaparty/virginia/ ================================================ 4. Putting the iron in Irony: Government In Action ================================================ The following Government Conference on Openness and Transparency is CLOSED to members of the public and the press: http://www.usdoj.gov/oip/foiapost/2009foiapost6.htm Upcoming Conference Providing Guidance on President Obama's and Attorney General Holder's Memoranda on the Freedom of Information Act On March 26, 2009, the Office of Information Policy (OIP), Department of Justice, will host a government wide training conference to discuss President Obama's and Attorney General Holder's Memoranda which establish a new era of open government. 'Virginia Liberty' - Help Wanted! ================================================ After almost five years of editing Virginia Liberty, some fresh eyes on the product are needed. In truth, the editor hasn't been happy with the paper's graphic presentation for some time; a product of the fact that he admits having no formal training in publication design. And in this day and age of attractive and sophisticated print presentation, 'Virginia Liberty' needs some better design. The Libertarian Party of Virginia **must** continue to publish a print newsletter. It is one of the few real, non-electronic contacts we make with many of our fellow members. Email is a great supplemental contact method, but it isn't a substitute for something you can hold in your hands. If you have some experience with desktop publishing and would like to take on production of (at least) a two-page newsletter (or small tabloid like 'Virginia Liberty' has been since 2004), please get in touch as possible. Call Marc Montoni at home at 804-288-2766, or via email at <[email protected]>. ================================================ 6. Next SCC Meeting April **18** 2009 ================================================ The next meeting of the state committee will occur on April 18 at 12:00 pm, with an 11:00 am lunch preceding. It will again be held at the Bleu Bistro in Richmond VA. Directions: http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=bleu+bistro+richmond+va Minutes of previous meetings are posted at: http://www.LPVA.com/Archives/SCCMinutes/Minutes.php Bring your appetite, your ideas, be ready to roll up your sleeves, and help us win a free country! ================================================ 7. Quote of the Day ================================================ "When a government controls both the economic power of individuals and the coercive power of the state ... this violates a fundamental rule of happy living: Never let the people with all the money and the people with all the guns be the same people." -- P.J. O'Rourke ================================================ 8. Is He or isn't He? ================================================ The One retracts his denial that he's a socialist. Well, sort of. What he actually does is - correctly - point out that George W. Bush was a socialist, too: http://www.campaignforliberty.com/article.php?view=26 Unfortunately, the author, having filed complaints against a Libertarian candidate with the FEC, will probably never regain the respect and enthusiastic support I used to have for him. ================================================ 9. When you flip the lights on, the cockroaches scurry. ================================================ The MIAC report is withdrawn, apologies issued, and the Missouri State Police promise to never, ever do it again. http://www.mcclatchydc.com/politics/story/64917.html ================================================ 10. Big Fun in Virginia ================================================ Here's a way to have Big Fun: drop a dime on the Virginia Department of Transportation: http://www.vdotwaste.com/ ================================================ 11. Picture of the week ================================================ 2e7ca8e.jpg Send your caption suggestions to [email protected], with the subject line "pickaxe mating with traffic camera". There won't be any prize other than the glory you'll get from being mentioned here. ================================================ 12. Call to Action in Fairfax County ================================================ Call to Action: Fairfax Anti-Tax protest http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/event.php?eid=76841406416&ref=mf You don't have to be a resident of Fairfax County to attend this rally. Here's a good analysis of the increases Fairfax County wants to impose: http://www.fcta.org/2009/fctaB2009-1.pdf ================================================ 13.
