Next SCC Meeting April 2009 ================================================ 1. Tax Day tea parties in Virginia ================================================ It never hurts to show at least a little resistance. http://taxdayteaparty.com/teaparty/virginia/ ================================================ 2. Caption contest kaput ================================================ Being new to the newsletter biz, I wasn't aware that a picture would get stripped in distribution. The photo I wanted to send was of a traffic camera with a full-size pickaxe embedded in its side. Authorities are investigating because ... err ... well, um, we're sure that they have a good & articulable reason. No doubt the perpetrator(s) will be caught, and due process will be afforded them. For now, all we can do is express our disapproval at an illegal action, no matter how much we note that picture said 'American' as eloquently as anything else we've ever seen. ================================================ 3. The Bartleby Project call to arms ================================================ If we lose the war for liberty, it will be because we were outflanked in the schools. John Taylor Gatto proposes to bring the fight where it needs to be fought, and he's calling for volunteers nationwide. http://www.ncc-1776.org/tle2009/tle513-20090405-03.html ================================================ 4. Introducing the Government backed auto repair shop ================================================ Reason TV & Drew Cary team up to make a commercial for the new DMV program. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi9XCpSYJbY ================================================ 5. 'Virginia Liberty' - Help Wanted! ================================================ After almost five years of editing Virginia Liberty, some fresh eyes on the product are needed. In truth, the editor hasn't been happy with the paper's graphic presentation for some time; a product of the fact that he admits having no formal training in publication design. And in this day and age of attractive and sophisticated print presentation, 'Virginia Liberty' needs some better design. The Libertarian Party of Virginia **must** continue to publish a print newsletter. It is one of the few real, non-electronic contacts we make with many of our fellow members. Email is a great supplemental contact method, but it isn't a substitute for something you can hold in your hands. If you have some experience with desktop publishing and would like to take on production of (at least) a two-page newsletter (or small tabloid like 'Virginia Liberty' has been since 2004), please get in touch as possible. Call Marc Montoni at home at 804-288-2766, or via email at <[email protected]>. ================================================ 6.
