STOSSEL: "You Can't Even Talk About It." ================================================ This Friday at 10 p.m. ET, I have another "20/20" special, "You Can't Even Talk About It." We tackle touchy taboos, like: America Needs To Do Less For Its Senior Citizens Pregnancy Discrimination Lawsuits The Best Way To Save Many Endangered Species Is To Eat Them Rescuing Idiots Let Them Do Steroids Radiating Food Makes It Safe To Eat See: http://abcnews.go.com/2020/Stossel/ ================================================ 4. Montana Legislators Throw Down ================================================ Now this is a really interesting idea. For things such as guns that have been regulated by the feds, exempt them if they are manufactured, sold, and owned within a state's borders -- thus negating the idea that it can be federally regulated due to the commerce clause: http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/Feature-Article.htm?Info=0056132 Nice idea. Hope it works. ================================================ 5. DOCUMENTARY: Nolan's Run ================================================ Here's a nifty little documentary about Gary Nolan's run for the Libertarian nomination for President in 2004. From their website: "Fed up with the Feds, Gary Nolan decided to do something about it: run for the nation's highest office. A thankless job -- Nolans a Libertarian, and third parties in America get little media respect. Capturing an inside view of outsider politics, documentary filmmaker Charles Hamilton follows the candidates exhausting cross-country trek promoting a radically different view of society. "Full of candid and entertaining moments, this independent production unaffiliated with the Nolan campaign or the Libertarian Party is the story of politics off the grid of typical campaign reporting, a place where politicians and voters arent just on the left or on the right. "In 'Nolan's Run,' viewers will find a world where the rubber chicken fundraisers come without chicken: just a bag of chips, and a cooler full of Bud. This is a world where the Presidential candidates nightly crash pad is a roadside Motel 6, and where breakfast is a Big Mac in one hand and a steering wheel in the other. http://www.nolansrun.com/index.html A few clips from the DVD were provided to IndependentPoliticalReport.com: http://www.independentpoliticalreport.com/2008/05/nolans-run-looking-back-at-2004/ ================================================ 6. PROTECT YOURSELF: Are You Chipped? ================================================ From: http://www.instructables.com/id/SFOTUL6FE1M4TU0/ "The main reason someone would want to block or destroy RFID chips would be to maintain privacy. In the last step I explained that RFID tags can be read from very long distances. The potential for abuse of this technology grows as more and more products and devices are being created with these tags built in. "Companies are getting consumers to blindly accept many RFID tagged products with the promise of convenience; however, most of the devices that contain RFID tags don't really need them. The tags may save a few seconds, but sacrifice an enormous amount of privacy and security. It is now possible for someone, with relatively simple equipment, to walk down a busy sidewalk and pickup the personal information of people carrying RFID tagged devices, without them even knowing. "Being able to block or destroy these chips allows people to decide what type of information they are willing to sacrifice for convenience." The following is a summary of the actions taken at this meeting: Approved as submitted the Minutes of the January meeting. Appointed Stew Engel as Interim 1st CD chairman, with the understanding from Stew that he will be filling this role only as a favor to the LPVA until a permanent chairman can be found. Appointed Jim Lark as the LPVA's Interim Platform Committee Representative. Lark assented (with lamentation). Appointed Jim Lark and James Curtis to the 2009 Audit Committee. It was noted that the 2007 and 2008 Audits were still ongoing. Approved the creation of the 2009 LPVA State Fair Booth Committee, with Jon Walker as chairman. Discussed the need for volunteers for committees such as Communications, Newsletter, Political Development, etc. Postponed a question as to whether to rent the LPVA database to a company called "E-Merge" for the purposes of matching our list to the VA registered voters list. Treasurer asked to research concerns noted in discussion. Approved a policy to retain Treasury financial records for three years, and directed Secretary to add an entry under "POLICY DOCUMENT 03.06.01 Duties of the Treasurer" to reflect the intent of this motion. Appointed BB&T as LPVA's Bank of Record. Adopted a Resolution of Appreciation for Dave Overstreet, which read: "The State Central Committee of the Libertarian Party of Virginia expresses its gratitude to Dave Overstreet, Secretary of the Lynchburg Libertarians, for his fine work and dedication to the cuase of liberty." Discussed of the MIAC (Missouri Information Analysis Center) report that advises law enforcement agencies about the "Modern Militia Movement." The group discussed various ad hoc efforts underway to respond to the MIAC report and also the Virginia equivalent. Recognized the extensive work of Doug Wright on overhauling and maintaining the LPVA website for the past year and a half. Set the next meeting date. ================================================ 8. Next SCC Meeting Sunday, July 29, 2009 ================================================ The next meeting of the state committee will occur on Sunday, July 29, 2009 at 12:00 pm, with an 11:00 am lunch preceding. Exact location TBA. Directions: Minutes of previous meetings are posted at: http://www.LPVA.com/Archives/SCCMinutes/Minutes.php Bring your appetite, your ideas, be ready to roll up your sleeves, and help us win a free country! ================================================ 9. The Forbidden Saturday Night Live Skit ================================================ SNL did a "Bailout" skit, which has created some rather awkward problems for NBC. They spiked the video and tried to shut it down on the Internet. But there's still some sites that have it: http://msunderestimated.com/SNLBailoutSkit.wmv Very startling to see Saturday Night Live absolutely nail the history and culprits of the Big Bailout. No wonder the powers at NBC pulled the skit. Through impersonations they present stark truth, perhaps one of the most surprising presentations almost allowed on NBC. ================================================ 10. SCARE YOURSELF: Indoctrination Video of Youngsters -- from Obama Campaign ================================================ Watch what we're up against: Religious-political indoctrination of children: http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/026790.html ================================================ 11. CONGRATULATIONS: To former LPVAer Stephanie Abdon Bray! ================================================ Stephanie Abdon Bray reports that Sullivan Anderson (Abdon) Bray made it safely into the world on Wednesday, April 22 (Earth Day!). Despite being early, Sullivan was 8lb., 5 oz. and was 20.5 in long. Congratulations to Stephanie and the Brays! Stephanie was employed at LPHQ in Washington DC for several years and served briefly as an LPVA volunteer for a period in 2003, before moving south. The Brays now live over the line in NC. ================================================ |*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*| Old Dominion Liberty Letter Issue #12 |*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*| ================================================ Creative Commons License This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 United States License by Marc Montoni. ================================================ Publishing Schedule: Weekly - But it depends on YOU!
