Dear Colleagues, Oftentimes we libertarians may be short of victories at the ballot box. But we still have plenty of somewhat more important victories to be pleased about. Tom Jackson, for instance, thinks we've done just fine:
http://www.sanduskyregister.com/blog/blog-jackson-street-beat/2808396 "The votes have been counted and the results seem clear: Libertarians won... I'm not joking. Ballot initiatives measure actual popularity of social movements, and the resounding victories of ballot measures to approve the legalization of marijuana and to support gay marriage amount to a stunning shift in public opinion in favor of freedom." So be proud of your philosophy of liberty, harmony, and abundance. Stick by it, and keep at it. Engage your friends and family. They *will* listen to you, even if it takes a while for them to come around. But come around they will, because eventually, reason does prevail. This is one reason we have our Libertarian Party: to bring our issues into the political discussion. In 1972, only Libertarians were calling for an end to drug Prohibition. Now, state-level drug war dominoes are beginning to fall, and when most of them are history, the federal prohibition will disintegrate also. In 1972, only Libertarians were talking about roads and bridges being built by the private sector. Now, it's reality: http://www.facebook.com/LPVirginia/posts/530816066946498 In 1972, only Libertarians were calling for ending discrimination against gays & lesbians. Now, slowly but surely, government is being rolled back from the bedroom. Yes, there's so much to be done that at times it can be discouraging and frustrating. But let's not sell ourselves short. Our voices have had an impact; they have changed the political debate. So take heart. Thank you for reading, and best wishes. Oh, and congrats to former LPVA chairman Rick Sincere, who was the central character in the above article in the Sandusky Register. -- Marc Montoni, Secretary Libertarian Party of Virginia ############################################################# Have an announcement you'd like to post?
