Dear Virginia LP Colleagues,

Delegate Sam Rasoul (D-Roanoke) has introduced HB82, which reduces the vote
test for a political party to remain on the ballot from 10% to 5% of the vote
in a statewide election in either of the last two statewide elections. I thank
Del. Rasoul very much for being the Patron on this bill. It has been referred
to the House Privileges & Elections Committee.

I ask all members and friends of the Libertarian Party of Virginia to lobby
their Delegate & State Senator on behalf of this bill. If it were to pass this
year, the Libertarian Party would be ballot qualified for the 2016 General
Election. It is particularly important to now lobby members of the House P&E
Committee. Here is a list of those members:

If your Delegate is on this list, please CALL AND EMAIL your Delegate NOW on
behalf of HB82.

Only Alabama (at 20%) has a tougher vote test requirement for a party to remain
on the ballot. States bordering Virginia have far lower retention
requirements: 5% in Tennessee, 2% in North Carolina and Kentucky, 1% in
Maryland and West Virginia. The median vote test requirement for all fifty
states is only 2%. And, Virginia is one of only four states in which only the
Republican and Democratic parties have been ballot qualified over the past 19
years (PA, NJ & NH).

For those of you who can lobby legislators in person (unfortunately, it appears
that I will not be in Richmond for Lobby Day on Monday, January 18), please be
sure to ask for support of HB82.

Thank you very much.

Bill Redpath
Chairman
Libertarian Party of Virginia
