Dear Virginia Libertarians,

If you are a notary public with an unexpired commission in Virginia, the
Libertarian Party needs your help!

Libertarian candidates need volunteer notaries to administer the affirmations
of ballot access petitioners that they witnessed the signatures collected.
Since each legal-size petition has space for 21 signatures, we can
conservatively estimate that (for example) a governor or U.S. Senate campaign
will need at least 750 petitions notarized, and that each U.S. House campaign
will need at least 75 petitions notarized.

Code of Virginia § 47.1-19 allows paid notaries to charge up to $5 per petition
(or other document) notarized. Therefore, volunteer notaries can save our
Libertarian candidates several thousands of dollars in notary fees, allowing
them to direct those funds instead at sharing the message of liberty with
fellow Virginians.

ACTION TO TAKE: If you are a notary interested in volunteering your services,
please email [email protected] (or click
<mailto:[email protected]?Subject=Volunteer_Notary> with your contact
information (name, address, and phone number at which you can be reached), your
notary registration number, and the date on which your commission expires.

If you can help us with this, we will add you to our list of volunteer notaries
(see http://lpva.com/HTML/notaries.php ) and, when it comes time for
Libertarian candidates to turn in petitions to the State Board of Elections,
they will contact you to arrange a time and place for petitioners to sign the
petition affidavits in your presence so that you can notarize them.

For information on becoming a notary, please see
<https://commonwealth.virginia.gov/official-documents/notary-commissions/>the
instructions at the Secretary of the Commonwealth's page. The costs are a $45
fee to the Treasurer or Virginia, plus a $10 fee to the Circuit Court. A
notary's commission is for a term of four years (Code of Virginia
<http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+47.1-21>§ 47.1-21).

Thank you for your kind attention!
