----------------------------------------MOSCOW. Aug 27 (Interfax) - The Moscow mayor has
decided to ban the bullfights in Moscow that were planned for September 8
and 9, his spokesman said on Monday. Though no bulls would have been killed
in the Portuguese-style bullfights that were to be held in Moscow, "the show
of violence is intolerable in any form," spokesman Sergei Tsoi told
Interfax.
Moreover, Mayor Yury Luzhkov said he believes
bullfights run against Russian traditions, Tsoi said. The spokesman said the
head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Alexy II, who earlier
protested the planned bullfights, had expressed satisfaction with Luzhkov's
decision. The fights were to be held at the Olimpiisky sports complex.
