Africast.com Nigeria gets German assistance on military equipment ABUJA, April 30 -- Chief of Defence Staff, Vice-Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, yesterday in Abuja received the German Technical military team in the country to assist the Nigerian Armed Forces on the maintenance and repairs of military equipment. Ogohi stressed that the joint armed forces workshop would take care of repairs and maintenance of the Forces equipment such as vehicle generators and other mechanical appliances. Until now, the repair of military equipment were done in different Army workshops. Head of the delegation, Mr. Udo Schuy expressed happiness that Nigeria was included in the aid assistance programme, adding "it is a double political goal, the aim of this programme is directed to support the Nigerian Armed Forces, to encourage the African countries participating in the peace-keeping process and making progress in the issue of human rights." Schuy explained that the German government had contributed more than $3 million to the workshop, noting that the infrastructure was ready "What we require from the Nigerian government is the personnel unit, engineers that will be taught the practical aspect of the workshop". He explained that the programme which started last year at the Sani Abacha Barracks, Abuja would continue before the end of 2004 by which time the equipment would have arrive. The military team paid a courtesy visit on the Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), was received by the permanent Secretary, Dr. B. K.
