AUCKLAND -- Australian Prime Minister John Howard was greeted Monday by tomatoes and skepticism in New Zealand as he sought to link Iraq with terrorism to justify military action against Baghdad. Anti-war protesters who have dogged Howard since he arrived here Saturday for trade talks with New Zealand counterpart Helen Clark welcomed his arrival at parliament for a state luncheon by hurling tomatoes, hoisting effigies depicting him as a US puppet and burning Australian flags. Among the 600 demonstrators were three Green Party MPs who boycotted the luncheon, calling Howard a "warmonger." "I see disarming Iraq as being part of the wider war against terrorism because of Iraq's past and continuing association to terrorist organizations," Howard told a joint press conference with Clark, even as protesters whistled, beat drums and hooted outside parliament.
