PRAGUE, March 13 (CTK) - NATO will invest a total of 5.4 billion crowns in five military infrastructure projects in the Czech Republic, deputy defence minister Jan Vana told journalists at a seminar on the fourth anniversary of the country's admission today. Most projects relate in some way to the defence of air space. The Alliance had participated in the building of a fundamental communication and information system. Now it co-finances the reconstruction of the airports in Caslav, central Bohemia, and Namest nad Oslavou, south Moravia. The two airports are to be turned into two NATO standard tactical airforce bases. "We have progressed further in Caslav while we are only starting in Namest," Vana said. However, it is not yet sure whether the Czech airforce will have modern supra-sonic planes in the future. MiG-21's service life expires soon and the planend purchase of Jas-39 Gripen fighters had first met with resistance of politicians and it was definitively washed away by the disastrous flooding in the summer last year when money was needed to reconstruct the damaged regions across the country. NATO also participates in the financing of the Czech Republic's connection to the system of joint anti-aircraft protection, NATINEADS. Czech investors also can participate in orders placed by the Alliacne in any NATO member country.
