Polish Radio February 10, 2010 Russia-Ukraine joint war games in 2010 Russia and Ukraine are planning to conduct a military exercise of their respective air forces in the autumn, Russian press has announced. Komsomolskaya Pravda, a Russian government-related daily, quotes General Aleksandr Zelin, commander of the Russian Air Force, saying that Russia intends to conduct military exercises not only with Ukraine, but with Belarus, Armenia, Uzbekistan and other former Soviet-bloc states. The Russian Defence Ministry has confirmed the news, while its Ukrainian counterpart refused to comment on the issue. Komsomolskaya Pravda, however, remarks that now, as pro-Russian Victor Yanukovych has won the presidential elections in Ukraine, joint military exercises are likely to happen more often. "The vast air space will fit both [nations] again," writes the tabloid. Russia has repeatedly stated that the enlargement of NATO can pose a serious danger to it. Recently head of Russia’s Security Council, Nikolay Patrushev, accused former Warsaw Pact countries which belong to NATO of trying to drag Ukraine and Georgia into the treaty.
