It's the ruber dustmat between the key-caps and the keyboard pcb that makes it feel mushy... because people complained, apple stopped putting the dust protector in. There is a fairly simple fix for this... pluck all the key-caps off the keyboard and pull the rubber mat off, and put the keycaps back on.
