It depends on the hardware you have. The method I use involves an
Apple IIgs with one 5.25" and one 3.5" disk drive and a Mac 7300.
The Mac 7300 has Ethernet and can run MacOS 9. So, I'm able to
browse out to the Internet on it and download the images. Then I
format a double-density floppy in ProDOS on the 7300 and copy a
couple of the disk images to it. Then I take the diskette to the
IIgs and using a couple of the IIgs utilities for copying/
decompressing the disk images to write them out to 5.25" floppies.
One thing I will add, you really need to have 4MB of RAM in the IIgs
for the disk image utility to run. The one I'm using requires a
minimum of 1MB of free RAM.
I'll also add that the 7xxx series of Macs is the last, in my
experience, of the Macs with floppies that can write ProDOS disks
that Apple II computers can read. The drive mechanisms in the later
Macs tend to create disks that for whatever reason won't read on the
old Apples.
Most people are basically giving away 7xxx machines. They aren't
worth anything. If you check the swap list here you can probably get
one for $10 + shipping (or free shipping if you find someone in your
locale).

I do not know how to take that disk image and turn it into a viable
file that the IIgs can read...
Do you know how to do this?

You can also download the disk image (for free) from
ftp.apple.asimov.net

Hey Guys,
Sorry for creating so much traffic on this list but I am trying
to learn everything I can about my new/old toy. Next question. Does
anybody out there have a copy of Maniac Mansion for the Apple II or
know where I can buy it? Next, I went to this site...
http://www.virtualapple.com/
Is there a program for OS 9 or Windows XP that will allow me to
take these disk images and put them on disk for my apple IIgs to
run them?
And I just wanted to say, Thanks for all the help, you guys are
great!!
Thanks,
Brian P. Rosser
