This reminds me sharply of that Wal-Mart incident a year or three ago where
they had a steeply discounted DVD player (offered at $20 or some such low
price) and people were (supposedly) trampled in the rush to grab them.
IIRC, some lady actually filed a suit for medical expenses, only to have it
emerge that she wasn't even there in the first place. @_@

The irony was that the particular DVD player on offer wasn't all that great
anyway.  I think it was a "CyberHome" or something.  Bottom-of-the-barrel
stuff, even for a loss leader.

But I guess if nothing else, the DVD player was at least _new_.  Someone on
the Swap List posted:

So it would seem that you had people duking it out over iBooks that had been
(ab)used for four years, with an OS that you might have to wipe off and
reinstall, with the pick of the litter already snagged by the original
users, not to mention the IT guys in charge of them in the first place.

Wow.  I guess it doesn't take much to get people to start knifing each
other.  [shakes head in sadness and amazement]
