I was just having some fun when I posted that and didn't mean to
attack the price. Value after all is in the eye of the beholder.
On the other hand, a person with sufficient patience can get things
cheap. For example: my 4 MB RAM card and Apple HS SCSI card cost
about $6 or $7 (and there were a lot of other goodies with them).

Not really. It is just that the memory was much more expensive to
start with. For example: I paid well over two hundred dollars for
four 4 MB 30-pin SIMMs in 1992. You would be luck to get $20 for
that memory today.

IIRC, there is one support chip in Bill's board and it is doubtful
that it is an expensive one (by that I mean it should cost less
than a dollar). That said, Bill's design isn't exactly a cheap
one nor would it be simple to assemble. When I first saw it, I
was left wondering why he didn't create a more modern design.
While 1 MB 30-pin SIMMs are cheap and easy to come by (well, at
least they were a couple of years ago) by the time you consider
socketing, drilling, and the labour involved in soldering it, it
would probably be cheaper to get small batches of boards done with
modern surface mount components (like the CFFA board). Of course
it would be more difficult to design and test, but a product is
different from a hobby.
