Hi, I'm back ("emergency" over! :-).
General comments :
I found out a long time ago (well, 1.50src ;-) that I MUST make sure %TEMP%
points to a valid directory BEFORE installing Arachne. I also knew
beforehand
that I needed a generous quantity of free conventional memory before doing
the
same (no problem, I need plenty for other app's anyway ;-). I also found out
the
hard way, NOT to try the Dialler immediately following installation
(recently fixed)!
So, with the above in mind, I have never had problems with the Arachne
installation program (well, there were three other nuisance problems, but
they
were fixed a while ago ;-). I have just installed 1.65 and everything worked
as
expected, the way I remember previous installs working. The COM/IRQ options
are more "user-friendly" however (:-).
OK, now for some more specific comments :
1. DO NOT follow the suggestion to set TEMP to %ARACHNETEMP% !
Anyone using %ARACHNETEMP% would do so because they wanted
Arachne to use a separate directory to other app's (which would use
%TEMP% instead).
2. The "Update quik start ? has GARBAGE like this in the textarea: *4$y!"
problem has been around since at least 1.50src (I think). This is one of
those "silly" little problems that never seem to get fixed (although I
have
reported it before to Michael, I haven't persisted, as it's not a
"priority"
issue like stability ;-).
3. Speaking of "silly" little problems, have any of you noticed before that,
according to Arachne, one inch is 25.7mm? (;-)
4. As for using the cursor keys, these only function if you DON'T have a
mouse driver loaded - well, at least that's what I found, the only time I
experimented with this (can't remember the version ...).
