Hello Neil:

Welcome to Arachne and welcome to the mailing list!  I too live in Virginia,
near Mt. Jackson, in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley.  I don't use
Crosslink.  I don't think your problem has anything to do with your ISP.

Clarence's advice is excellent.  Most of us on the list have all become
aware of problems encountered when trying to run Arachne with a Win-Modem,
aka "Plug-and-Pray".  Don't try to do it in a box either, even if you have
a real modem.
