Once in a blue moon I too will get the message "PPP Link is down". The
error occurs only very rarely. I don't know what causes it. I have never
been able to recover from that error simply by doing the three-finger-salute.
CTRL + ALT + DELETE, try again, and the same thing happens. By cold
re-booting I can almost always recover immediately. You are right, Roger.
Surely there are gremlins. The same gremlin that takes down the PPP link
has been there since Arachne v. 1.20 beta. I can remember reading about it
way back then. The only recommended exorcism at that time was a cold reboot.
Solemnly performing the same ancient ritual will still produce good results
today.
All the best,
Sam Heywood
