In Windows you don't need smartdrv.
Windows comes with a MUCH superior caching software.
Called VCache.
(it was even available in win 3.11, win 3.1 still needed smartdrv)

You only need smartdrv in DOS mode of win9x. (eg bootgui=0 or f8 -> dos)

Anyways Vcache comes from dos ... so it has the following problems.
There are very strange problems if you have more than 512 MB of memory.
The interaction with the virtual memory subsystem is ... hmmm ... suboptimal
