I don't think there's any potential danger in using a different
DNS server than your ISP's. All it does is return the numeric
address. I'm pretty sure that's all that happens. Wiser heads
will contradict this if I'm wrong.

Don't forget that the Internet was built as a co-operative
venture for the mutual benefit of it's builders. Lots of stuff
is still open to all comers.
