Shouldn't this be "provides=('xz=5.0.0')"?  Afterall, this is an array
variable?  Or is there a bash function provides() of the same name?

That's right, it should have been provides=('xz=5.0.0'). I wrote it 
wrong. I didn't realize of the typo until now
