hi. trying to update, i kept running into problems, e.g., (…)
Hello,
Changing the mirror, the course of action you took, is the correct
choice.
It’s hard to tell, what caused the problem. In the error log⁽¹⁾ there
are some entries indicating recent connectivity issues, so perhaps their
links are currently overloaded or otherwise not very stable. Little more
than a guess.
However, something else caught my eye. You said “commented out”. It
suggests you have more than a single mirror enabled in mirrorlist. There
is not much reason to have more than one enabled, and never more than a
few. Under normal circumstances pacman only ever uses the first mirror
in the list. Only if this fails, the next one is picked. It may sound
like a backup strategy, but it may only work under very rare condition:
the first mirror is *completely* dead. This condition is almost never
true, so much more often having more than a single mirror creates a
cascading failure.
