Just build  (and install) the first binutils with makepkg -d and you're
fine. No need to change anything.

Thanks for your reply. The binutils PKGBUILD has a
comment in it:

# compile always twice: first binutils, then gcc, then
binutils again

Should there be another binutils in the order you gave
above?
