These days I just use ntfsclone from ntfsprogs. It can also use sparse files on filesystems supporting them, so you have two choices - "special" format for backup purpose, or just a sparse file that can be mounted using loopback and i.e. ntfs-3g (and i.e. shared using samba :) ). With additon of ssh, you can trivially make nice network based backups to remote server(s). Points of interest: http://www.linux-ntfs.org/ http://www.ntfs-3g.org/ http://udpcast.linux.lu/cmdlinedoc.html PS. If you recover the partition later to a different position, you will have to make small adjustments in boot sector of ntfs - more info here: http://wiki.linux-ntfs.org/doku.php?id=ntfsclone _______________________________________________ arch mailing list [email protected] http://archlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/arch
