Well, it will be as big as the files in it, if you decide to use "special" ntfsclone's format, which is better suited for network / burn backups. Besides you can pipe it through gzip, split, etc. Sparse files will be better if you need any sort of access to the image after cloning (mounting, resizing ntfs volume, etc.).
